Early Life
Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam was born on 15 October 1931 to a Tamil Muslim family in the pilgrimage center of Rameswaram, India. His father, Jainulabdeen, owned a ferry that transported Hindu pilgrims.
Humble Beginnings
Despite his humble background, Kalam showed a passion for science and technology from a young age. After graduating from high school, he went on to study aerospace engineering at the Madras Institute of Technology.
