Carolina Hurricanes Sweep New York Rangers; Advance to Second Round of Playoffs

Hurricanes Win Game 3 Decisively, 4-1

The Carolina Hurricanes defeated the New York Rangers 4-1 in Game 3 of their first-round playoff series on Tuesday night, completing a sweep of the Metropolitan Division rivals.

Hurricanes Dominate Series

The Hurricanes, who had not won an away game during the 2022 Stanley Cup playoffs entering the series, were dominant throughout the three-game sweep. They outscored the Rangers 12-4 and controlled the pace of play for much of the series.

In Game 3, the Hurricanes jumped out to an early 2-0 lead on goals from Andrei Svechnikov and Nino Niederreiter. The Rangers cut the lead to 2-1 in the second period on a goal from Chris Kreider, but the Hurricanes responded with two more goals in the third period from Sebastian Aho and Teuvo Teravainen to seal the win.

Hurricanes goaltender Antti Raanta made 24 saves in the win, while Rangers goaltender Igor Shesterkin stopped 26 shots.

Hurricanes Advance to Second Round

With the sweep, the Hurricanes advance to the second round of the playoffs, where they will face the winner of the series between the Boston Bruins and the Toronto Maple Leafs.
